Frequently asked questions

What practices usually ask before working with us.

The questions practices ask first

What does it cost?

Writing the bid costs you nothing. If you submit it, there is a flat fee, and a success fee if you win. We agree both with you before we start.

Isn't a success fee on top a lot to pay?

You only pay it once you have won the work, so it comes out of the fees the contract brings in. We are there for the bids your team has no time to write, so it is paid from work you might otherwise have let go. We agree it with you before we start.

How much of our time will it take?

Less than writing the bid yourselves. Your part is registering for the tender and sending us the pack and a few past bids, then reading the draft, joining a short call and answering the questions in the margin that only your team can. We do the reading, the planning, the drafting and the chasing.

Why should we trust a firm we haven't heard of?

You don't need to take our word for anything. We write the bid first, and you only pay if you decide to submit it. Before you send us any documents, you receive a signed confidentiality undertaking. And we have worked on both sides, writing competitive proposals to win public sector work and choosing between suppliers' proposals as a buyer in large companies.

Can we see testimonials or bids you have written?

We don't publish client names or past bids, because our work for each practice is confidential, as yours would be. A testimonial would go up only once a client had approved the wording in writing. The fairest test is a draft for your own tender.

We've got bid writers in-house. Why would we work with you?

Plenty of practices do. We can take the tenders your team hasn't got time for, or a second bid in a busy week, so fewer good opportunities get dropped. And because you only pay if you submit, trying us on one tender costs you nothing but the time to read it.

Working with us

Which tenders do you cover?

Public sector tenders from councils, schools, NHS bodies, housing associations, universities and other public bodies that advertise through Find a Tender, Contracts Finder and regional portals.

Can you find tenders for us?

Yes. We read what is advertised across the UK each week and tell you about tenders that match work you have already done.

Can you help if we are bidding with partners?

Yes. Some public contracts need architects, surveyors and engineers together. We can draft the requests to your partners for what we need from them, so you don't have to chase it.

How much notice do you need?

A week or more between receiving the pack and the deadline is comfortable. Less can work if the pack and your material arrive quickly.

Do you submit the bid for us?

No. The bid is made in your name, so you upload it through the buyer's portal. We give you notes on formats, file names and signed forms so the upload goes smoothly.

Fees

What if we don't like the draft?

Then you don't submit it and you owe us nothing. We would like to hear why, so the next one is better.

Do you set our price?

No. You set your fee. We make sure the pricing schedule goes back in the form the buyer asked for.

Confidentiality

Do you write for our competitors?

We may write for other practices on other tenders. We don't write the same tender for two firms, and nothing you send us is used for anyone else.

What happens to our documents afterwards?

They are covered by our confidentiality undertaking for three years. If you ask, we delete or return everything and confirm in writing once it is done.

Looking at a tender?

Tell us which one, or ask us to look out for tenders that suit your practice.
